Multi‐phase‐field microporomechanics model for simulating ice‐lens growth in frozen soil

This article presents a multi-phase-field poromechanics model that simulates the growth and thaw of ice lenses resultant frozen heave settlement in multi-constituent soils. The segregated inside freezing-induced fracture is implicitly represented by evolution two-phase fields indicate locations damaged zone, respectively. induced their own driving forces capture physical mechanisms crack growths, respectively, while phase-field governing equations are coupled with balance laws such coupling among heat transfer, solid deformation, fluid diffusion, growth, phase transition can be replicated numerically. Unlike phenomenological approaches indirectly freezing influence on shear strength, multiphase-field introduces an immersed approach where both homogeneous ice-lens distinctively captured characteristic function force accordingly. Verification validation examples provided to demonstrate capacities proposed models.
